Separate Ways could serve as a home to more than just fleshing out RE4’s story and Ada Wong’s involvement in game events. Resident Evil Village received story-based DLC Shadows of Rose last year, letting players take on the role of Rose Winters. 2017’s Resident Evil 7 Biohazard received multiple major add-ons, including the episodes Not A Hero starring Chris Redfield and End of Zoe featuring a playable Joe Baker. Still, Capcom has released post-launch story content for the most recent mainline Resident Evil games. It’s not very subtle!Ĭapcom has not announced plans for downloadable content for Resident Evil 4 beyond April’s The Mercenaries update. The Resident Evil 4 remake itself makes a pretty clear allusion to Separate Ways during an endgame conversation between Leon and Ada. (The original Resident Evil 4 also had a separate playable chapter named “Assignment: Ada,” during which Ada secures plaga samples for Albert Wesker.) In the original incarnation of Separate Ways, Ada performs actions like ringing the church bell that ends the village’s attack on Leon, as well as preventing Leon’s death at the hands of Jack Krauser and securing the rocket launcher that Leon uses in the game’s final battle. Kennedy and Luis Serra during the events of the main campaign. Separate Ways is an unlockable expansion for Resident Evil 4 that gives players control of Ada Wong on her journey, which frequently intersects with Leon S. A datamine of the game’s PC version indicates that the Separate Ways DLC that Capcom released for earlier versions of Resident Evil 4 may be coming to the remake as well.Īccording to a tweet from Resident Evil Central, members of the Resident Evil Wiki Discord community have dug up a reference to Separate Ways - or rather, The Another Order, as the add-on was known in Japan - in Resident Evil 4’s PC files. Resident Evil 4 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X & S.Resident Evil 4’s new remake will get a boost of free content with the addition of The Mercenaries mode on April 7, but it appears that there will be another adventure coming to Capcom’s modernized survival horror game. It’s really a matter of just how much Separate Ways DLC will cost if Capcom do end up selling it. Potentially selling remade side content that came as standard for other versions of the original game might fall in a bit of a grey area for some, but it’s worth remembering that at least you wouldn’t have to rebuy a game to play it like you would if you originally played it on GameCube. This is backed up by regular Resi leaker Dust Golem, who suggests that it will be one part of a lot of DLC, free and otherwise, to come to the remake. Capcom would almost certainly have announced it as free post-launch DLC alongside the already announced Mercenaries update otherwise. Separate Ways is unlocked by completing the main game in the original versions of Resident Evil 4 (except for GameCube and VR), but if we had to guess, Capcom will likely expand the experience and sell it as paid DLC. It also fills in some fairly important narrative blanks. Separate Ways offers a unique Resident Evil 4 experience compared to the main one with Leon in the original game, as Ada is faster but more vulnerable and can also use her Hookshot to get around. There also doesn’t seem to be anything confirmed for Assignment: Ada, though that it isn’t as much of a loss considering it’s a smaller piece of non-canon content. The likelihood is that Separate Ways will indeed come to Resident Evil 4 Remake at some point, but whether that’s as free DLC or paid DLC is anyone’s guess. We asked Capcom directly and they stated that they currently have nothing to announce when it comes to Separate Ways. It’s a fairly sizeable piece of extra content that has a lot of fans, but unfortunately Separate Ways isn’t included with Resident Evil 4’s remake on day one. Originally released to coincide with the game’s PS2 port, Separate Ways follows Ada Wong across five chapters of gameplay and fills in some of the blanks of where she goes and what she does after she’s separated from Leon in the main game. However, many fans are probably wondering whether Separate Ways, a side-expansion featuring Ada Wong, has also made the cut for Resident Evil 4’s 2023 version. Resident Evil 4 Remake is a pretty faithful reimagining of survival horror royalty that modernises and tweaks a lot of rougher edges that are to be expected after over fifteen years since the original’s release. Light spoilers for Resident Evil 4 Remake included. ![]()
